This was a project I started in 2018 to develop and build an arc furnace which was capable of melting just about any type of metal for casting or analysis purposes. It evolved through several iterations, some not working at all, some barely functioning and ending up with the current model... The Mark V, with Mark VI currently under construction.

The process began when a friend of mine and I watched a youtube video on melting and casting aluminum from a charcoal powered foundry. Almost immediately we realized we could make a better foundry than the one posted on the video and thus it all began. Upon completion of that foundry, we were asked to cast some lion heads for the Deer Spring Fountain in Saratoga Springs, NY. We cast 6 of them with the 3 best being used on the fountain (see "The Beginning" Page). That did it for me. I was hooked on casting.
